The Guiding Categories
The upper left of each card shows a category. Categories—such as Warm-up, Topic, Co-Design, Tools & Materials, Opportunity, or Constraint—streamline the co-design process and indicate the purpose of each activity. These categories, when paired with the guidance of the placemat, point the way to structured sessions that you and your attendees will find enjoyable and meaningful. Here’s a look at what each brings to a session:

Warm-up
Warm-up cards help set the tone for the session by creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. These activities encourage participants to feel comfortable and open up, setting the stage for meaningful discussions.

Topic
Topic cards introduce essential mental health themes such as self-esteem, stress management, and emotional awareness. These cards guide the main focus of the session, encouraging teens to explore these topics in a supportive environment.

Co-Design
Co-design cards are where the magic happens! These cards encourage creative challenges that teens and adults tackle together, giving everyone a chance to contribute equally. Through co-design, teens and adults collaborate, share ideas, and work toward solutions in a supportive, engaging way.

Tools & Materials
These cards ensure you have everything you need for each session. From pens and paper to specific resources, the Tools & Materials cards provide a checklist to help you prepare for each activity, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone.

Opportunity
Opportunity cards highlight the potential benefits of the activities. These cards prompt teens to explore new perspectives, encouraging self-expression and inclusivity. They’re a reminder that each session offers a chance to learn and grow together.

Constraint
Constraint cards introduce realistic challenges or limits, like working within a budget or adapting to school rules. These cards help teens think critically about overcoming obstacles and finding creative solutions, just as they would in real-life scenarios.
